LIVED: he 1900 census at age 8 became the father of an Ervin Hoag b. 1924, still living, who is the father of my daughter-in-law, Melissa Hoag. Morris Judson also had another son, Martin, still living. It seems that because the first young Morris at age 15 was living with another family, in Otsego County, and was overlooked. He does not appear in any of the family trees I have found on the internet. All of the information I have is documented by family and census records. Mary Ann Evangeline Alverson comes from a famous Alverson family that is posted in the World Family Trees. No information is posted on the family trees about Mary Ann Evangeline either, although there is a lot about her brother Anson and father Emery. I know this is confusing, but there was an older brother to Lucius & Mary that no one seems to know about. I am new at this so perhaps I won't know how exactly to send you the family histories, etc. But here goes: 1850 Census: 8/24/1850 Town of Laurens, Otsego Co., NY Morris age 15 farmer, living with Family 372, Albert Benedict. Role M432/580-P. 245, Image 493. His father, mother, Adeline, Mary and Lucius were living in Butternuts, Otsego Co. at this time. In the 1850 census pages I found several other young Hoags living with families other than their own. It must have been a practice for the children to either help other members of the extended families or just to have work. 1860 Census: 8/13/1860 - Potters Corner, East Hamburg, Erie, PA Family #1372. Morris Hoag, age 26. Farm Laborer. Had a hard time locating him for this era, but because so many of the family migrated to Erie, PA, I decided to look there. I found him, age 26, living with a Hiram Hoag & family. There was an Elias Hoag living next to Hiram. Morris had a cousin, Elias, son of Isaac. So far I am not sure of the connection, but believe Hiram and Elias are either cousins or uncles and he went there to work with them for a while. 1870 Census: 6/8/1870 - New Albion, Cattaraugus Co., NY Morris J. Hoag age 36, Feed Store with wife Adeline, age 34. Page 6/38, New Albion, Cattaraugus Co., NY Visitation #60/Family #55 Not sure what Adeline's last name was. But their son Merrill, was born about 1873-74. Adeline died around this time and Morris J. married Mary Evangeline Alverson. She was the daughter of Emery Alverson. There is a lot about the Alverson's in the Word Family Trees. I found her living with her father in 1860 in Kansas. Her mother died and he remarried. Around that time, Mary Evangeline came back to live with her brother, Anson E. Alverson, who lived in New Albion, Cattaraugus Co., NY. She is found living with Anson & family, age 16 in 1870. She married Morris J. c. 1875 when she was about 21. He was twenty years older than her. The Hoags were Quakers. Don't know about the Alversons. But perhaps he met her thru their church. He had a baby son, Merrill at that time. 1880 Census: 6/18/1880 - New Albion, Cattaraugus Village, Cattaraugus Co., NY.P. 30, Supvr. Dist. #11, E.D. 63 Vist. #313/Family #334. Page 30/39 M J Hoag, age 46, wife Evangeline 26, Children Merrill A., age 6. Ada, age 3 and Grace, age 2 Nothing now til 1900. 6/8/1900. New Albion Cattaraugus Co., NY Morris J. Hoag, b. 1834, age 66. Married 24 years, six children. Supv. D. 186/ED #54, Page 18/48. Family #222. Evangeline, wife, age 46; Bernice age 16, Edna 13, and Morris born 1891 age 8+. So far I have not been able to find them in 1910. I did find Merrill Hoag & family in 1910 still living in New Albion, Catt Co., NY. Census dated 4/19/1910. Supv. Dist. 20, ED #74. Merrill, age 36, Agnes wife, age 34, a daughter Helen B. age 11 and infant son. I believe Morris J died c. 1908 and am still looking for the rest of the family. Morris, would have been about 19 in 1910. In 1920 he is married and living in Richmond Boro., NYC. ED 1608. About this time they started spelling the name Maurice, but still pronounced Morris. He married to Aileen Kelly (Aileen is the correct spelling, census spells it Eileen). It gives his age as 25, but the 1930 census gives his age as 38. We all know how wrong these census pages can be. The 1920 census is for ED 1608, Richmond Boro, NYC. They have one son at this time, Martin, age 1-1/2. In 1930 he is found still living in Port Richmond, Richmond Co., NY 4/21/1930. E.D. 43-347 and SD #27, Sheet #14A. Had a hard time finding him as his name is given as "Mars" Hoag. Age 35 (?) should be at least 38

Son Martin, age 11, daughter Aileen, age 9 and Ervin, age 6. Also living with them at this time is Caroline Kelly, who was the mother of Aileen Kelly. Caroline Kelly is formerly Caroline Sanders. This Sanders family is descended from John Sanders, Sr. b. Abt. 1772 in Cabarrus Co., North Carolina. John Sanders Sr. - John Sanders, Jr. - John Sanders & Melissa Dianah File - Caroline Sanders. Caroline Sanders married Martin Van Buren Kelly. Martin V.B. Kelly died 1/2/1915 in Staten Island, NY. His widow Caroline is found living with daughter Aileen Kelly Hoag in 1930. Ervin Hoag (still living) is the father of my daughter-in-law, Melissa Ann Hoag, living in North New Jersey. His brother Martin is also still living in Vineland, NJ. They supplied me with a lot of information that is backed up by the above cited census, etc. I am sending you a generation outline as an attachment to another email. Hope this helps.
